Annual Appeal - A NOTE FROM THE TREASURER
I expect that you have all received a letter from our President Lester Kenway asking you to join us in contributing to our Club’s annual appeal. The money we raise from this effort will help put Caretakers and Ridgerunners on the Trail next summer. These enthusiastic individuals manage our heavily used campsites and teach hikers how to Leave-No-Trace in the woods.
We have been receiving responses since Thanksgiving; we are almost a third of the way to our goal of $25,000.
Remember, your donation is tax deductible. Help us reach our target. Mail your contribution or click on the Donate Now button. Posted 12/15/11

Students from Dirigo High School helped construct a tent platform at the Sabbathday Pond campsite.
The students hiked in the material and helped replace the 10x16 group tent platform at the campsite.
They stayed over on Friday night and hiked out Saturday. A terrific group of kids! |
MATC brings together people from all aspects of life, uniting common interests in the outdoors and a profound love of the Appalachian Trail. Lasting friendships and new-found skills abound amongst MATC members.
MATC worktrips usually take place on weekends and may involve overnight camping at or near the worksite. Worktrips can include lean-to, privy and site construction; footpath recovery (bog bridges, erosion-control techniques, waterbars); trail relocations; brush and blowdowns removal; paint blazing, and assisting the club's Maine Trail Crew with rockwork and footpath hardening.
MATC District Overseers advertise trail maintainer and lean-to/tent site maintainer vacancies on this website and in the club newsletter, The MAINEtainer.
Volunteer opportunities abound in the club. Whether it be trail or site maintenance, committee work or clerical work, come out and enjoy Maine's spectacular scenery and make a positive, lasting contribution to the Appalachian Trail.
