First Aid Class – The Maine Appalachian Trail Club will sponsor a one-day first aid class on Friday, June 21 at the Trail Crew Base Camp in Garland Maine. The Class will be American Heart First Aid and CPR taught by Liz Como and will start at 9:00 AM and will conclude at 5:30 PM. The Class is customized towards numerous topics relevant to working and playing in the outdoors and meets USFS requirements for chainsaw operators. The cost of attending the class is $55.00.  Please contact Lester Kenway – trailser@myfairpoint.net - to reserve a space in the class and to get directions. Senator Collins Supports AT Land Protection Program

Senator Collinsl. to r.; Laura Belleville, ATC Director of Conservation and Tony Barrett, MATC Vice President meeting with Senator Susan Collins at her Washington, DC office on February 15, 2012.  They are reviewing a map of the High Peaks Initiative in the Western Mountains of Maine.  Senator Collins was instrumental for her support of the Forest Legacy Grants for the Crocker Mountain and Orbeton Stream parcels.   When the remaining funds are secured, over 16,000 acres adjacent to the Appalachian Trail within the High Peaks area will be protected from development and preserved as working forest.
