Campsite Maintainer Wanted – White Cap District

Carl A. Newhall Campsite – Be the maintainer for a campsite named for a MATC legend! The Newhall campsite is located in the beautiful White Cap range and near Gulf Hagas. Drive access is via Katahdin Iron Works and an old logging road, but no special vehicle is required. Walk access is about 2.6 miles with ~700 feet of elevation gain. This campsite has a lean-to, tent sites, as well as a moldering privy. Privy maintenance involves “raking the pile”, but it’s really not that bad (witnesses available upon request); become a MATC “turd herder!” More information on campsite maintainer duties and privy maintenance. Cranberry Stream Privy Haul

We need your help getting materials to the Cranberry campsite on August 31! The privy was pre-built in May and is now packaged into ~150 bundles that are about 15-30 pounds. Volunteers are needed to shoulder this material to the campsite; a group of Colby College students will be there to help too. It’s about a 0.9 mile walk with 220 feet of elevation to the campsite. Many hands make lighter work, and we need many hands for this project. Those of you involved in past projects can attest to the camaraderie, satisfaction, and good fun with these projects!
