Maine Trail Crew LeaderTeach and lead a volunteer trail crew doing footpath reconstruction work on the Appalachian Trail at remote sites on the mountains of Maine. Projects include building rock steps, waterbars and retaining walls and as well as new trail. Activities focus on teamwork and learning opportunities for volunteers. Training with stone cutting, stone work, Griphoist rigging systems, First aid, and leadership techniques will be provided. Sorry, no pets are allowed. Qualifications:

Caretakers & Ridgerunners on the Appalachian Trail in Maine The Maine Appalachian Trail Club is a volunteer, non-profit organization. We manage, maintain and protect the Appalachian Trail (AT) in Maine. Caretaker / Ridgerunner Job Description: · Located at Piazza Rock (Saddleback Mt.), Horns Pond (Bigelow Range) and Gulf Hagas · Meet, greet, register and provide information to hikers on the Appalachian Trail · Impart Leave No Trace information on backcountry practices on where to camp, how to protect water sources, water treatment, dish washing, fire regulations, etc. · Manage high use camping sites on the AT · Deliver educational presentations at campsites to hiking groups · Maintain a composting privy system (Horns Pond site) · Ridge run, hike north and south on overnight trips to patrol other areas Requirements:
Dates: Piazza Rock Caretaker: May 18 – September 22; Horns Pond Caretaker: May 18 – October 13. Gulf Hagas Ridgerunner: May 18 – October 15. Work schedule may be 10 days on/4 days off. All positions work on weekends and holidays, days off are mid-week. Pay: Starting salary $12.50/hour. Backpacking/camping gear is provided for the season.
