Old Clearwater Brook Site Trail to Bemis Side Trail
A trail section in the Baldpate District is looking for a new Maintainer.
This trail section starts at the intersection with the Bemis Side Trail, continuing for 1.7 miles to the Old Clearwater Brook side trail. The elevational change is about 400 feet but portions of the access trail can be very steep.
Access is not the easiest, but beautiful views are available along the access to this section. The current access point is as follows:
- From Andover, Maine, head east on ME-120. After 0.6 miles, turn left on South Arm Road. Drive on South Arm Road for 7.6 miles. Parking is along the widened right shoulder after the AT crossing of the road. The trail heads east for 4.3 miles over the summit of Old Blue to the intersection with the Old Clearwater Brook Side Trail. It is a hike, steep at times, to start the workday, but a nice view is available at Black Brook Notch about a mile from the summit.
- We are making every effort to secure a less strenuous access pathway to this section.
- Section: 86
- End Points: Old Clearwater Brook Side Trail to Bemis Side Trail.
Distance: Approximately 1.7 miles
